MACON, Ga. (4/27/2015) —
University of Detroit Mercy junior Kylie Birney
(Plymouth, Mich. / Ladywood) was named the Atlantic Sun Women’s Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year, and three Titans received Academic All-Conference honors as the team was announced on Monday by the league office.
Birney and seniors Tessa Keuler (Oregon City, Ore.) and Morgan Lear (San Ramon, Calif. / Dougherty Valley), all co-captains, were each voted to the 12-member Atlantic Sun Academic All-Conference Team. The Titans tied Jacksonville with the most representatives on the academic squad.
Birney was one of two unanimous selections on the team after recording a 4.00 GPA in Business. Birney is enrolled in the five-year MBA program at Detroit and is a three-time member of the UDM Athletic Director’s Honor Roll. She was also selected Academic All-Conference last year. The junior leads the Titans in goals with a career-best 32 markers this season and ranks ninth in the conference in that category. Birney is also second on the team with 29 draw controls, fourth with 19 ground balls and has twice scored five goals in a game this season. Birney recently received the Reverend Norbert Heutter Award, given to a UDM male and female student-athlete who sets an example for others by their display of attitude, dedication, and leadership.
Keuler has a 3.97 GPA in Business and Economics. The accolade marks the third-straight season that Keuler has made the Academic All-Conference team. The senior co-captain has set several career highs during her final season at Detroit and tops the team with 27 assists and 53 points. She ranks second on the squad with 26 goals and has three game-winning tallies this season. Keuler is the all-time leader in assists in Detroit history and earlier this year, she became just the third UDM women’s lacrosse player to reach the 150-point plateau. She holds school records for assists in a game, season and career.
Lear, who has a 3.84 GPA in Business Administration, was recently announced as the President’s Award winner, the second women’s lacrosse player in Titan history to earn that. The President’s Award is given to the most outstanding male and female seniors who best typify the image of the complete student-athlete. Lear leads the team with 13 caused turnovers and ranks sixth with 18 ground balls.
The Academic All-Conference Team recognizes student-athletes who excel both on the field and in the classroom and exemplify the A-Sun’s mission of Building Winners for Life. All the members of the team boast a 3.30 cumulative grade point average or better and participated in at least half of their team’s games.
The Titans are the No. 3 seed for the upcoming 2015 Atlantic Sun Championship and play sixth-seeded Stetson in a quarterfinal matchup at 3:30 p.m., Wednesday in Jacksonville, Florida. The game is set to be streamed live on ESPN3.com.

Television is no longer a focused content activity. In 2014, 78% of U.S. Internet users accessed second screens during shows and 71% did so during ads. The biggest second screen activities by far are checking email and social media.
So, what are you doing to get in front of the 78%? Contact us today.
Only a few weeks ago, we were presented with an opportunity to redesign the logo for one of our clients, Paul’s Carpet Shine. We are pleased to present the new logo below!
Great job to Kylie Birney, our Graphic Designer, and thank you for the opportunity, Paul!
